Community Planning for a Sustainable Future & an Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP)

The Municipality of Barrington has made a commitment to become a more sustainable municipality. The first step down this path is to update the municipality’s planning documents and develop an Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP). A community planning process has been underway for the last year to develop an Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP) as part of the new Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS). The Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) has been appointed by Council as the committee to oversee this community planning process.

Interviews with community members and organizations have taken place and an initial community workshop was held in May, 2009. The PAC has also developed a Vision statement, identified issues and priorities related to community sustainability and approved foundation principles as well as goals and objectives to guide community development into the future. Council has also approved these documents and agreed to include them in both the ICSP and the MPS . A draft ICSP will be available in the near future and feedback from the public on this draft would be welcome.  (See below)

Over the next year the Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use By-law will continue to be reviewed and updated by working closely with the residents, businesses and organizations of this municipality.

Get involved and participate in the community planning process so that we can hear from as many community members as possible. Your input is important so that a new more comprehensive municipal plan can be developed. All PAC meetings are open to the public and held on the third Thursday evening of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Barrington Municipal Building. Additional information will be placed on the municipal website to keep the community informed about this community planning process. We look forward to your interest and participation.

A PUBLIC PARTICIPATION MEETING WILL BE HELD ON JANUARY 21, 2010, TO RECEIVE WRITTEN AND ORAL PRESENTATIONS REGARDING THE DRAFT INTEGRATED COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY PLAN.  THE MEETING WILL BE HELD IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM, IN THE ADMINISTRATIVE CENTRE, IN BARRINGTON, AND WILL COMMENCE AT 7:00 P.M.
