SPECIAL MEETING OF COUNCIL
The meeting was called to order by the Warden at 8:47 p.m., in the Conference Room, in the Administrative Centre, in Barrington, N.S., with the following members present: - Warden Sterling Belliveau
- Brian Holland, Municipal Clerk Absent was Councillor Dwayne Hunt due to work commitments.
PURPOSE OF MEETING The purpose of the meeting was to discuss with Mr. Shaun Hatfield Council’s
support for a letter being sent to the Minister of Education and to administrative
and executive members of the Tri-County District School Board and Southwest
Regional School Board.
DISCUSSION OF LETTER Mr. Shaun Hatfield was present and reviewed the proposed letter being sent by the Safe and Quality School Association. The intention of the letter is to reinforce to the School Board and to the Minister of Education the community’s desire that a new school be built rather than the old Barrington Municipal High School being refitted. The Safe and Quality School Association is requesting the Warden to sign the letter on behalf of the Municipality, together with other local officials. There followed some discussion of various aspects of the letter. Sentiment was expressed by several Councillors that they are in agreement with the letter and support the Association. CO030201 Moved by Councillor W. Smith and seconded by Councillor E. Nickerson that Council is in support of the proposed letter from the Safe and Quality School Association as presented this evening in its revised version and that the Warden be authorized to sign it on behalf of Municipal Council. Motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned by mutual agreement at 9:23 p.m.
