EMERGENCY MEETING OF COUNCIL Minutes of an Emergency Meeting of Council held in the Conference Room, in the Administrative Centre, in Barrington, N.S., on Monday, February 17, 2003. The meeting was called to order by the Warden at 9:55 p.m. with the following members present: - Warden Sterling Belliveau
- Brian Holland, Municipal Clerk
PURPOSE OF MEETING Pursuant to Section 19(3) of the Municipal Government Act, the Warden
deemed it necessary to have an Emergency Meeting of Council, without notice,
in order to discuss the condition of local roads in the Municipality.
All members agreed to the Warden’s request.
CONDITION OF LOCAL ROADS It was the general consensus of members that the condition of local roads in the Municipality is deplorable. The continuing maintenance of the roads, and especially the snow plowing and snow removal are inadequate to handle the current conditions. There is a potential for serious flooding in many areas of the Municipality once this snow begins to melt. Should there be rain, the resulting waters will be trapped on the road by the large snow banks piled on the sides of the road in many areas of the Municipality. It was agreed by members that there is a need to notify the local Department of Transportation office and to draw attention to the serious threat of flooding in the area. Resolution C030231 Moved by E. Nickerson and seconded by F. Bower that the Warden issue a press release concerning the condition of the roads in the Municipality and the potential drainage problems. Motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned by mutual consent at 10:02 p.m.
