EMERGENCY COUNCIL MEETING
July 26, 2000 Minutes of an Emergency Meeting of the Barrington Municipal Council held July 26, 2000 at 8:38 p.m., in the Jury Room, in the Court House, in the Administrative Centre, in Barrington, N.S. Pursuant to Section 19(3) of the Municipal Government Act, members were requested by the Warden to attend an Emergency Meeting of Council to discuss a matter of potential litigation. Since this matter of potential litigation affected the Warden's daughter, he declared conflict of interest and asked the Deputy Warden to Chair the meeting and retired from the Council Chambers. The Deputy Warden asked members to proceed to the Jury Room for a closed session of Council pursuant to Section 22(2) of the Municipal Government Act for the purpose of discussing a matter of litigation, or potential litigation. At approximately 8:50 p.m. the closed session of Council was moved to the Conference Room for the purpose of being able to contact the Municipal Solicitor by telephone. At 9:08 p.m. the closed session of Council was completed and members returned to the Council Chambers to continue in open session. Councillor Belliveau was not present at the open session as he continued to be in conflict of interest in this matter. At this time the Clerk read a letter from Mr. Phil Star re his client Suzanne Belliveau. There then ensued some discussion of this letter and the request being made in it. Moved by S. Stoddart and seconded by T. Wickens that a letter be sent to Mr. Phillip Starr of Pink Nickerson Star indicating that a resolution had previously been passed by Council stating that the request for compensation of Suzanne Belliveau had been denied. Motion carried. ADJOURNMENT Moved by S. Stoddart and seconded by E. Nickerson that the meeting adjourn at 9:20 p.m. Motion carried. Back to Council Page || Top of Page |
