SPECIAL MEETING OF COUNCIL
July 31, 2006 The meeting was called to order by the Warden at 10:48 p.m., in the Conference Room, in the Administrative Centre, in Barrington, N.S., with the following members present: - Warden Louise Halliday - Councillor Donna LeBlanc-Messenger - Councillor Eddie Nickerson - Councillor Larry Stewart - Councillor Sean Strang Absent was Deputy Warden Bower due to a leave of absence. - Brian Holland, Municipal Clerk APPOINTMENT OF BUILDING INSPECTOR Resolution C060755 Moved by D. Messenger and seconded by L. Stewart that Mr. Russell MacIntosh be appointed Building Inspector for the purpose of the application by the Joneses for a storage building project. This action is being taken on the advice of the Solicitor of our insurer due to the fact that the Joneses have indicated they will be taking litigation against the Municipality involving the Municipality’s current Building Inspector on another matter. Motion carried unanimously. DIGBY/SAINT JOHN FERRY SERVICE Resolution C060756 Moved by E. Nickerson and seconded by D. Messenger that the Municipality send a letter, together with a copy of the letter received from B. Reynolds Trucking, with their permission, to our Member of Parliament with copies to the Premier, to Minister MacKay, and to our MLA, indicating the support of the Municipality for the maintenance of the Digby to Saint John ferry service. Motion carried unanimously. Resolution C060757 Moved by E. Nickerson and seconded by D. Messenger that Municipal Staff contact the key stakeholders and request letters of support be provided to the Municipality prior to the meeting being held on August 8th, for the support of the continuation of the Digby/Saint John ferry service. Motion carried unanimously. Page 2, Special Meeting of Barrington Municipal Council, July 31, 2006 The following stakeholders will be contacted and requested to provided a letter: Sea Star Seafoods, Xsealant Sea Foods, Island Marine Products, R.I. Smith Ltd., Canjam Trading Ltd., James L. Mood Fisheries, Leroy Walker Trucking, Huskins Trucking, and Roger Comeau. Resolution C060758 Moved by E. Nickerson and seconded by S. Strang that the Municipality pay the expenses of the Warden for attending all meetings and events related to the maintenance of the Digby to Saint John ferry service and that she be authorized to attend these meetings at her own discretion.
