The meeting was called to order by the Warden at 8:05 p.m., with the following members present: - Warden Sterling Belliveau - Deputy Warden Fred Bower - Councillor Angus Atkinson - Councillor Eddie Nickerson - Councillor Wayne Smith - Councillor Steven Stoddart - Councillor Tina Wickens - Brian Holland, Municipal Clerk PURPOSE The purpose of this meeting was to discuss Council's approach and advice to the Warden regarding his meeting with the Registrar of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia, to be held this Friday morning in Halifax. At the same time the approach to a similar meeting to be held with the Minister of Health the following Tuesday was also discussed. Meeting with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia After some discussion it was agreed by members that those in attendance at the meeting with the College of Physicians and Surgeons would be determined by the invitation received from that group. The invitation that was received indicated that the Warden, together with the Municipal Solicitor, and the Mayor of the Town of Clark's Harbour, would be attending this meeting. No other groups, or representatives from other groups, had been asked to attend. In consultation with the Municipal Solicitor, it was determined that he did not believe it would be beneficial for him to be present at this meeting and he had prior commitments at that time. Consequently, the Municipal Solicitor will not be attending the meeting. The Municipal Clerk and Town Clerk will attend to provide advice to the Warden and Mayor. The purpose of the meeting with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia will be to have the suspension of Dr. Blair lifted, as indicated in the formal motion made at Council. Some discussion ensued regarding whether or not Dr. Blair actually wishes to continue to work during the year. Nevertheless, it was the consensus of members that Council should continue to make its representation to have Dr. Blair's suspension removed. Page 2, Emergency Meeting of Council, June 20, 2000 Meeting with Minister of Health It was the consensus of members that the meeting with the Minister of Health should serve two purposes: 1. To request some type of interim service so that a doctor would be available during the time that Dr. Blair may be suspended. 2. To impress upon the Minister the fact that more recruitment effort is needed to find additional physicians in the long term. After discussion of both meetings, it was the consensus of members that the previously indicated approaches would be satisfactory. ADJOURNMENT Moved by F. Bower and seconded by E. Nickerson that the meeting adjourn at 8:33 p.m. Motion carried. Back to Council Page || Top of Page |
