Low Income Tax Exemption

The Municipality of Barrington provides a property tax exemption for low income earners who are residents of the Municipality.

In light of COVID-19, the Municipality has increased both the income levels and exemption amounts for fiscal 2020/2021outlined in the policy. Property owners are eligible for an exemption according to the following income levels and amounts (exemption granted will not exceed amount owed):

  • For those making less than $21,000 the grant exemption would be $400;
  • For those making more than $21,000 but less than $25,000 the grant exemption would be $300;
  • For those making more than $25,000 but less than $30,000 the grant exemption would be $200.

Applications are accepted until September 30th of each year.

Property Tax Rebate for Seniors

The Property Tax Rebate for Seniors helps low-income seniors with the cost of municipal residential property taxes. Rebates are 50% of what was paid on last year’s property taxes, up to a maximum of $800.

Applications are accepted until December 31, 2020.
