Civic Numbers

Every dwelling and business in the Municipality has or should have a civic number. This civic number is the identification number that emergency response providers use to locate your property. When a call is placed to 911 or an emergency response provider, the dispatcher is at most times automatically aware of your civic number, as the number is linked to the phone number (unless there is no phone, or the caller is using a cell phone). Emergency response providers rely on you as a homeowner or business owner, to post a civic number as this enables the emergency vehicle driver to locate your property. The failure to post a civic number may mean the difference between life and death.

Having your civic number clearly displayed may also assist a passerby to identify their location in the event of an emergency.

If you own an existing building and you are unsure if a number has been issued or you want to confirm your civic address contact the Building Inspector’s Office at 902-637-2421 or email  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
