Assistance for Children

Would your child like to participate in a sport or recreational activity, but the registration costs are way too high for your budget? The Kids Fair Play Program is designed to assist children and families with the costs associated with sport and recreation programs. The objective of the program is to create opportunities for all children and youth, regardless of socio-economic backgrounds.

To apply, contact the Recreation Department at 902-637-2903. Applications are reviewed every three months and are all confidential.

If you need assistance with a sport in Nova Scotia (soccer, baseball, hockey, etc) please use the KidSport application.

The Canadian Tire Jumpstart program also offers financial assistance to kids. This national program can cover equipment, registration and/or transportation costs.

The Municipality also offers a variety of Grants & Rebates that can be viewed here.

 

PACE Financing

Property Assessment Clean Energy (PACE) Program By-law

Barrington Municipal Council at their meeting held August 28, 2017 gave second and final approval to the adoption of the Property Assessment Clean Energy (PACE) Program By-law.  This by-law makes provision for an owner of a Qualifying Property located within the Municipality of Barrington to apply to the Municipality for financing of a Clean Energy Upgrade for their property.

A Clean Energy Upgrade will result in substantially improved energy efficiency, the generation of renewable energy or reduced greenhouse gas emissions. 

Upgrades could include caulking, weather stripping, duct/air sealing, energy efficient windows and doors, heat pumps, wood or pellet stoves, solar thermal panels, etc.

 Water Supply Upgrade – Lending Program By-law

Barrington Municipal Council at their meeting held August 28, 2017 gave second and final approval to the adoption of the Water Supply Upgrade – Lending Program By-law. This by-law makes provision for an owner of a Qualifying Property located within the Municipality of Barrington to apply to the Municipality for financing of a Water Supply Upgrade to the property.

A Water Supply Upgrade could include the construction of a new dug or drilled well or an upgrade to an existing well that is required to source water for the property. Upgrades may also include the installation of cisterns, water from fog systems, greywater collection or other containers that are installed for the purpose of the supply, use and conservation of water.

 Low Income Property Tax Exemption By-Law

Pursuant to Section 69 of the Municipal Government Act, the Council of the Municipality of the District of Barrington wishes to provide a tax exemption for low income earners.

Deadline to apply is February 28th of each fiscal year.

Heating Assistance Rebate Program  (HARP)

The Heating Assistance Rebate Program (HARP) helps with the cost of home heating for low-income Nova Scotians who pay for their own heat. Rebates range from $100 to $200. You can apply between October 16, 2017 and March 31, 2018.
