MPAL is Municipal Physical Activity Leader
Throughout Nova Scotia there are MPALs and MKPALs (Mi'kmaq Physical Activity Leader) working within communities to help raise the levels of physical activity. Each municipal unit takes a different approach and you will hear different job titles such as "Physical Activity Coordinator" or "Active Living Coordinator" but all are working towards the same ultimate goal.
The MPALs for the Municipality of Barrington and Town of Clark’s Harbour are Lana Townsend and Samantha Goreham
The Municipality of Barrington and the Town of Clark’s Harbour have developed a Physical Activity Strategic Plan in partnership with the Department of Health and Wellness, the plan is specifically targeted to the area and reflects the culture of the area.
The strategic plan caters to the entire population of the Municipality of Barrington and the Town of Clark’s Harbour. It will be implemented in stages over the next five years.

The plan is scheduled to be evaluated in the Fall of 2017 and refreshed once the evaluation in completed. Part of the evaluation is a community phone survey. Once the survey dates are selected they will be advertised to the public, all are encouraged to participate in the survey so that we can create a new plan for physical activity in the Municipality of Barrington and Town of Clark's Harbour.
Another part of the evaluation is focus groups, one is scheduled for October 12th 2017 at the Sobeys Community Room 6:30pm - 7:30pm for more information or to join the focus group contact Samantha.
