Nova Scotia Marathon

The Municipality of Barrington welcomes you to the Lobster Capital of Canada! Located on the beautiful south west shore of Nova Scotia, we are Nova Scotia's most scenic run!

2019 Nova Scotia Marathon  - July 28th, 2019

 

Race Site

Municipality of Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada. The municipality is located on the southwest tip of Nova Scotia and has a population of approximately 6994. Fishing and retail are industries in our municipality. We welcome you to the Lobster Capital of Canada.

Course

marathon routeThe marathon route is in a rural setting on a secondary road. The route contains some rolling hills, but is basically a flat route.

 

Start time and location

starting location8:00 am on Sunday for full marathon, half marathon, and the 10 km, & 6 km run

Sherose Island Recreation Centre, 27 Park Lane, Sherose Island, Barrington Passage.

Race Kits 

Race Kits can be picked up July 27th 10:00am - 7:00pm and July 28th 6:30am - 7:30am

We will be using bib chips this year, the bib chips can be picked up on Sat.(July 27) 10am-7pm and on Race Day (July 28th) 6:30am - 7:30am.

Pick up will be at the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena - 12 Park Lane, Barrington

Certification

The full marathon was measured in 2007, using the Jones Counter Method. Full Marathon Certification #NS-2018-008-DRY.

The half marathon was measured in 2010. Certification #NS-2010-068-BDC.

The 6K &10 k run is not a certified measured distance.

Swag

Every runner receives a performance (moisture wicking) t-shirt; register by May 31st to be guaranteed your shirt size.

Every runner receives a finishers medal.

Please note that after 350 registrations you will not be guarenteed to receive your swag at the event. 

Aid Stations

aid stationAid Stations are located approximately every 3 kilometers throughout the course. Water, Gatorade, cut up oranges, chocolate bars, and first aid supplies are provided at each station.

Special drinks

Runners can place special drinks, gels, etc. in boxes for specific aid stations before the start of the race. The boxes are located at the registration area, there will be labels and markers available. These boxes will be picked up at 7:15am on race day in order to be delivered to the aid stations just before the race begins.

  • Registration for 2019 will open on December 12th at 12:00am at Race Roster

  • There will be in person registration available on July 27th 10am-7pm at the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena: 12 Park Lane

Facilities

Change rooms, washrooms, showers and a warm up area available in the Barrington Municipal Arena and the Barrington Recreation Centre.

Results

resultsResults will be published after the race to Run Nova Scotia, municipal website, local newspaper, and radio stations. Full marathon results will be forwarded to the Boston Marathon organizers.

 

Awards and Post Race Reception

awardsThe 6k & 10k runners will be presented with their certificate awards at 11:00am. The Full and Half marathon winners will be presented their certificate award at 12:30pm.

The awards and the reception will be held at the SWM Arena. Seafood chowder, fish chowder or cold plate will be served.

For those for whom this is their first ever organized Marathon, Half Marathon or 10 km run we have a commemorative mug for you.

Accommodations and Food

Sea Me Camp

We now have a limited number of campsites available by the start line!

Campsites are available for one night, July 27th and can be reserved by calling 902-637-2903 or during registration through Race Roster. There is a limit of 4 people per campsite. The campsite costs $20.

Directions to the Event

Traveling from Yarmouth – follow the Highway no. 103 to Barrington, take exit 30, follow Oak Park Road to Highway no. 3. At the stop sign, turn right. Follow the road to the Sherose Island sign. Turn left for Sherose Island. Drive less than 1 k and turn left (uphill) at the Recreation Complex sign.

Traveling from Halifax – follow the Highway no. 103 to Barrington, take exit 29, follow Highway no. 3 to the Sherose Island sign. Turn left of Sherose Island. Drive less than 1 k and turn left (uphill) at the Recreation Complex sign.

Traveling Information

  • Bay Ferries – Princess of Acadia (from Saint John, New Brunswick to Digby, Nova Scotia) - 1-877-762-7245.
  • Bay Ferries – Service between Yarmouth, NS and Portland, Maine -
  • We are located about three hours from the Halifax Stanfield International Airport. There are car rental companies at the airport and there are some shuttle services available.
