Barrington, NS - The Council of the Municipality of the District of Barrington approved the 2016-2017 municipal budget during a special meeting of Council held on June 7, 2016.

Facing a decrease in revenues and an increase in expenses staff and council spent significant time assessing every aspect of the budget in order to ensure the services provided met the expectations of the residents while remaining affordable.

After much deliberation, consideration, and trimming the residential tax rate will remain unchanged at $1.00/ $100 of assessment, and the commercial rate will also remain unchanged at $2.55/ $100 of assessment. The total expenditures for the Municipality of the District of Barrington for the 2016-2017 fiscal year are budgeted at $7,751,723

Warden Nickerson said Council was pleased with the budget stating, “Although this will be a lean year, we feel very comfortable with this year’s budget, and are pleased to be able to hold the tax rate.”

Highlights of the approved budget include: paving projects, upgrades for the Sandy Wickens Arena, and funding for a new dehumidifier for the Barrington Regional Curling Centre.
